Spanish 1

Spanish 1 introduces students to the rich cultures of the Spanish-speaking world while building a solid foundation in key vocabulary and grammar. This course is designed for beginners or those with minimal prior knowledge of Spanish. Using a communicative, task-based, and project-based approach, students work toward achieving a Novice High proficiency level, as outlined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). In addition to language skills, students develop cultural competence, learning to interact effectively with Spanish speakers. These abilities are reinforced through engaging assignments such as interactive PPT slides, hands-on tasks, unit-based projects, and class discussions.

Spanish 2

Spanish 2 expands students’ understanding of the Spanish-speaking world while strengthening their ability to communicate in Spanish. This course builds on the foundation established in Spanish 1, focusing on essential grammar concepts and vocabulary to enhance speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students also develop strategies to interpret meaning from context when encountering unfamiliar phrases. Cultural exploration remains a key component, with students engaging in research on significant figures and topics related to Spanish-speaking countries, as well as analyzing authentic articles. These skills are reinforced through interactive ppt slides, task-based activities, unit summative projects, and class discussions.

Spanish 3 deepens students’ understanding of the Spanish-speaking world while refining their language skills through advanced practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This course incorporates Intermediate-Advanced level readings designed to spark discussion and debate, encouraging students to express their ideas with greater fluency and confidence. Writing assignments and presentations are key components, allowing students to demonstrate their growing proficiency in structured and creative ways. Through interactive activities, analytical discussions, and immersive tasks, students continue to strengthen their ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.
